Curse You Winter.

Grumpy Cat is my spirit animal
So I just had the scariest experience of my life. I am not even really exaggerating all that much. I'm playing on a coed indoor team and the games are in Boise really late on Thursdays, normally about a 20-25 minute drive. Not bad at all.

But with the giant snow storm that has just hit, driving home tonight was a nightmare. Wind. Snow. Ice. The perfect trifecta of evil that made my journey back to school about 45 minutes. I don't think I have been that stressed out in my whole life. Luckily I had my parents Subaru to drive and made it back safely.

The best part of my drive, weird that there was a best part, is that I randomly got an old Veggie Tales song stuck in my head as I was driving and then sang it over and over the whole drive home. I haven't heard this song in years. It was a God thing.

"God is bigger than the boogie man, he's bigger than Godzilla or the monsters on TV
Oh God is bigger than the boogie man and he's looking out for you and me"

So weird but it totally calmed me down and I made it back alive so Go God!

Interesting Life Situations: Paint Fight

Don't mind my awkwardness...
During first semester for a Young Life club we had a huge paint war. We threw paint all over each other, played capture the flag, and had a blast. Covered head to toe in paint I drove back to my dorm to get cleaned up.

But, on Monday nights my dorm does this thing called "Life Group" where the girls from our wing get together and.... talk about our lives I guess. I never get to go because it is on Young Life night and I am never here for it. So the day of the paint fight we had met for Young Life early so I was back at my dorm in time for life group.

I had little to no intention of going to this event.. Not my thing. But our life group leader just so happened to walk into my room while my roommate was about to leave and realized I was there.. She got very excited and started going on about Life Group.. All I wanted at that point was to shower but here I was confronted with the person in charge.

So I found myself sitting in a chair in the lobby of the second floor waiting for the others to show up. Every. Single. Look. I got that night was of pure questioning judgement. I don't blame them. I looked like I had been attacked by a crayon mob, or a bunch of Kindergartners maybe. I felt a little uncomfortable but then I got to explain what Young Life was to the girls on my wing so that was exciting. Feeling uncomfortable is all part of the deal I guess. I would be the one to show up to an event covered in paint. Yay for interesting life situations.

Reasons I Shouldn't be Left Alone #3

·
As a soccer player my natural state is one of hunger. I constantly need snacks and foods of some sort to get me through my day. During preseason for my college soccer team I was alone in my dorm room between practices. I decided to make some Top Ramen (actually one of my favorites, not even kidding) but to throw in something new I added peanut butter. Most likely not my wisest food choice but it wasn’t that bad. I probably won’t do that again but hey when you’re alone with no one to feed you, peanut butter ramen is a solid choice.

Not really. Don’t eat peanut butter in your ramen kids. If you take anything away from this it should be 1. A reinforced feeling of common sense that says DON’T put peanut butter in your ramen and 2. I shouldn’t be allowed to cook for myself and 3. I shouldn’t be left unsupervised.

Reasons I Shouldn't be Left Alone #2

·

My baby sister, Zona, wanted to go to the mall with some of her friends and I being the spectacular shining creature that I am, took her to the mall. Not wanting to babysit a bunch of freshmen in high school (so adorable yet so awkward) I found myself wandering around the mall alone in search of activities. I jokingly told Zona that I was going to get my ears pierced out of boredom, but before I knew it I was questioning a sales lady on ear piercing and what that would cost.  After about 10 seconds of intense thoughtful consideration I decided to get my cartilage pierced, the earrings were very sparkly, and the lady asked which side I wanted it on. My mind went to Remember the Titans and left side... STRONG SIDE. So I let the lady punch a hole in my left ear based off of a movie quote and boredom. Solid decision making on my part.

Things I Get Irrationally Mad About Part 1

I tend to get irrationally angry about stuff. These are some of the things I despise.
Don't be this guy.
·         People that get on sports teams fan pages that aren't actually fans of that sports team that bash on that team's fans and that team. You have no business here. If you aren't a fan of that team don’t like/follow/or comment on their page. Go away. If your passionate about your team, good for you. Stay on your own page.

Stop. Just Stop.
·       Sports puns bumper stickers. If you have a license plate cover or a sticker that says “I dig volleyball” I probably hate you. You like volleyball? Cool. Good for you. I don’t care.

No. Absolutely not.
·         Predictable movies. I could do an entire rant about how much I hate the movie Avatar. I know. I know. It’s supposed to be very beautiful but if you can’t come up with a name better than “unobtainium” for your precious metal on the planet Pandora then you shouldn’t be making movies. Sorry James Cameron, calling a metal that is hard to obtain “unobtainium” isn’t creative.

I'm Great at Breaking Stuff.

Seriously how does this stuff happen to me? I was taking a shower and was going to shave my legs for the first time in a week. I went to move the shower head away from me and THE WHOLE SHOWER HEAD COMES OFF. Water starts gushing out of the pipe and going all over the place. I am standing there with my razor in one hand and the shower head in the other, the only thing I could do was laugh. Everyone else in the bathroom was probably extremely confused as to what was so funny, seriously I'm showering not watching a cat video. I tried to screw the shower head back on then realized I should turn the water off first.. After that adjustment I got the shower head back on only to find the water sprayed in every direction when I turned the water back on. This is my life. How do things like that happen.

Making of a Champion

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson

In honor of the Seahawks playing the 49ers on Sunday I was inspired to write about my favorite team.

My family is originally from Washington around the Tacoma area. I grew up watching the Seahawks  with my dad. I love Sundays, God and football, there is nothing better!

Speaking of God and football, recently a few of the players for the Seahawks put together a video called Making of a Champion. The video is a series of interviews of some of the players and coaches for the team. They talk about their lives growing up and how they started playing football. They talk about the turning points in their lives as they realized they were playing football at the highest level they could and still felt there was something missing. A relationship with Christ.

At Young Life a few weeks ago we showed Making of a Champion as the message during club. It was amazing to see 60 high school students perfectly quiet while watching the video. As we invited our Young Life kids to watch I would like to invite you as well to take a few minutes and just listen to what these players have to say:

I think it is incredible to see players and coaches talking about their relationships with Christ. It goes to show how important a relationship with Christ is to them that they want to share it with their fans.
Oh yeah... Go Hawks.
